Kiran Bir Sethi at TED

Happen to see an excellent talk by Kiran Bir Sethi, at TED.com. She is the founder of Riverside Schools in Ahmadabad

Its so true that we often forget what we can learn from kids as we are always busy teaching them to be like us. The fact that our life was shaped by the child in us reinstates that we can learn now from the children around us. What the world needs is that unadulterated, unbiased and honest solutions to common problems. Who else can give that but the Children

As I was watching I remembered the saying “Child is father to the man” from Wordsworth’s Rainbow

My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

And then I decided to commit a grave crime to pen a few lines of my own and add them here below

When the child in us could bring us here
The child of Today can take us forward
What we need for the problems of the day
Are solutions of heart and not of the head

We are often forced to choose from ideas
Polluted by profits, power and prejudice
At least for once let us change our being
From teachers of children to being learners of childhood

Enjoy the Video and pardon my crime

Aravind Eye Care System

Posted by Vinod on December 10, 2009

“Simplicity of Confidence”, so well said by Dr. V in this video. Medical practitioners’ world over have a position that many professionals don’t have.

A position where people come to them with an unflinching element of trust, as it is looked more as a service than a profession. Hence this demands a very bold responsibility on their part to make an impartial judgment of what needs to be done

All professions have their service value but the one of doctors are quite different as any deviation from the concept of service can impact highly on a life.

The high Medical cost (not just a US factor) is every where and health is not something anyone with commonsense can offer (unlike lawyers). What we need is committed doctors, who will serve the community without a price tag and another group who can make this possible through the availability of funds and support staff.

Aravind is so effective because the idea came in the mind of a doctor who had everything in his hand to make a change and when he decided to make the difference the world followed him and gave him the help and I am sure the same model will make the world a healthier place for all.

Fields Wicker-Miurin on Leadership’s Missing Manual

Posted by Vinod on December 10, 2009

Fields Wicker-Miurin’s talk had some people claiming it not that good or worthy for TED.

Well the point many miss is that more than being taught of new things we need to be reminded of what we already know. I felt the talk was really good for it let us know closely three lives from different parts of the world that had the same message to convey, doing something to make this a better world.

Again the Ted videos should be viewed from the heart to know its essence. It is definitely a source of information, but more than that it is the inspiration behind the information that you connect with.
